Kava vs. Kratom

Kava and kratom are different plants and should not be treated as interchangeable. MyKavaBar is focused on kava bar discovery; this page exists because people often confuse the two terms in search.

Reviewed and updated 2026-06-16. This page is informational and is not medical, legal, or venue-specific advice.

They Are Not the Same Thing

Kava generally refers to products from Piper methysticum root. Kratom refers to products from Mitragyna speciosa leaves. They are different plants, different markets, and different safety discussions.

Some venues may serve multiple botanical products, so visitors should ask what is in a drink rather than assuming a menu item is kava.

FDA Context for Kratom

FDA has warned consumers about kratom risks and states that there are no FDA-approved drug products containing kratom or its main chemical components. MyKavaBar does not promote kratom.

This comparison is included to reduce confusion, not to recommend either product.
